Hi! My name is Ashley. I decided to create this page to share my love of Jesus and baking, with a focus on all things sourdough. Did you know that sourdough is mentioned in the bible? The biblical term for sourdough starter is leaven. Luke 13:20-21, KJV: “And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.” It is mentioned again in Matthew 13:33 among other references to bread.
I have been baking for most of my life. It has been a therapy and favorite past time for me since I was in high school. My mother and grandparents have taught me a few tricks of the trade if you will, in addition to the cooking shows that I watched growing up.
I am a Nurse Practitioner by day (or night) and baking is one of the many hobbies I enjoy sharing with others. My husband would say that I am a woman of many hobbies and trades but I think he would agree that my cooking is probably one of his favorites. We live near Asheville, NC, and have little girl maltipoo named Arya.
I was gifted my sourdough starter for Christmas from my mother-in-law and I have been learning the skill ever since. My starter, Lucy, is a 30 year old starter that originated in Canada then traveled to Utah before I acquired her. Lucy is very active and has been gifted to several friends and family members since she has been in my possession. I am a home baker hoping to share some sourdough with local persons interested in tasting my creations. Thanks for supporting me in this journey!
